Couplers

Couplers

What are they?
Couplers usually come in two plastic pieces: a base and a ring. This system fits inside cake decorating bags or cones and allows you to use the same icing with different tips.

Step 1: Choose which type of decorating bag/cone you would like to use. In this tutorial, a disposable plastic pastry bag is used.

Step 2: Insert the coupler base into the chosen pastry bag/cone. Find where the helical groove or thread of the coupler begins and note to cut there with scissors. Push back the coupler and cut bag.

Step 3: Reinsert the coupler base and cap it with a tip.

Step 4: To secure your decorating tip, screw on the coupler ring. To interchange tips, unscrew ring, insert new tip and secure again.

Happy Cake Decorating!

Tip: Fill cone only half way full.

I have a large canvas bag, and some of my tips fall through. When I use my coupler, it's too big and won't fit. Ugh! Do couplers come in different sizes, or is my bag just sewn wrong? lol
